This weekend my big girls each had two friends over, from their class,
for a Valentine’s Day Play Date! I teamed up with Oriental Trading
for a fun ‘Love Bug’ theme and the girls were so excited to
craft, snack and play in this fun set up!
I LOVE getting creative and working up fun celebrations for the kids.
They were so giddy when they all arrived after school on Friday afternoon!
Excited to share the easy Valentine’s Day details that made it feel extra special…
I ran to the store that morning… and set it all up a couple hours before they arrived.
It just took a few key things to make it a WOW moment when they came into the room.
I tried to keep everything bug and love day themed from the decor and snacks to the craft!
The red tissue paper garlands are from Oriental Trading.
They come strung up and ready to go up!
The XOXO is from Walmart and the top garland is from Target.
It immediately made it a celebration! :)
I covered my white table (that we painted a couple months ago) with some white craft paper that I get on a roll.
It’s super handy for things like this because I use it to protect my table but also for decor!
I did little pink thumbprint love bugs around it!
The little heart drawstring bags were holding the necklace craft… Valentine Bug beaded necklaces!
Both from Oriental Trading.com. The necklaces were a 12 pack for just over $5!! And they were great quality.
The Valentine heart snack cups holding the puffed popcorn are from Oriental trading
and were the perfect size for the snack. You could use these cups for so many different things.
They are thick and sturdy enough you could probably even put ice cream in them!
Just looked and they have the 25 pack for $3.47!!
The plates are from Walmart and the mason jars with flower lids are from Zurchers.com
(I use them in almost all of my celebrations. :)
I tried to stay simple but fun with the food.
I knew it was going to be after school and the kids come home ready to eat you out of house a home.
So I wanted to offer some sweets but also work some fruit and veggies in!
I saw orange slices at the store and they just felt like bugs to me haha.
and I loved the pop of orange color!
I like creating things with gummy candies because they naturally stick together easier!
I started off thinking slugs..but I’m not sure what they ended up as haha…love bugs. ;)
I used peel away twizzlers as the antennas…and cut a tiny bit off the bottom of the orange slices, with scissors,
so they could lay flat. I poked a tiny hole with a knife to work the antenna in a little easier.
I swear this sounds more complicated than it really was haha.
But it ended up being so cute and the kids loved them!
I used “grass” sprinkles that I’ve had for forever and have used for a bunch of things.
A couple sticks (pretzels) on the plate for them to crawl around on. ;) naturally.
I saw this idea on Pinterest somewhere and loved the idea of making butterflies with the mini pretzels!
BUT I wanted something more fun and playful as their body.
I had these little sour worms and they ended up being the perfect size!
The mini cupcakes were just store bought. ready to roll.
The heart marshmallows I got at Target and had them waiting in the wings for something fun like this!
Stacked up treats are always more fun for kids… I had them in a bowl at first but then said NOPE,
I want to use a cute cake stand for these. (from Zurchers.) They are too pretty to have hidden anyways!
Ants on a log seemed like a good healthy snack to add to our table full of treats!
They fit the love bug theme perfectly!
I’m still obsessed with these guys.
and not mad about having a whole container of orange slices in my pantry right now.
not mad at all.
I’m so happy with how the table came together!
The different heights of the cake stands add that whimsy fun….
makes me want to do an Alice in Wonderland tea party one day!
How fun would that be?? I might need to start hunting down tea sets at good wills!
(Most of my cake stands are from Zurchers or Target. I’ve also found some at Hobby Lobby and Marshals!)
It was so fun seeing the girls giggle and play together!
Trolls came up so of course we had to put the soundtrack on and have a dance break!
They loved making their necklaces and love bug stamps
The gold glitter heart garland was the perfect touch to my Dining Room Shelves!
If you want to see more on those check out my most recent post on them:

I made it in Photoshop and printed it out on card stock paper.
The ink pads were from the bargain bins at Target.
I was inspired by one of our favorite activity books from Usborne: Fingerprint Activities- Animals
They loved putting their little fingerprints on the paper and doodling their love bugs to life!
