This room was sooo bad when we first bought it..i didn’t even take a photo of it to show friends. haha. that’s how bad. but i found this photo from when we bought it that they posted online.
BEFORE:
don’t you just love the giant prickly christmas wreath they left us???? lovely…..
So in this space we had a contractor friend help us out with most of the dry wall projects. we got rid of the drop down ceiling..re-drywalled and insulated the window wall…tore up the thick brown carpet. took down the paneling..painted the fireplace..stenciled the wall (michael’s stencil) (i did it twice because the first time i was halfway it was crooked. haha.-i laugh now..) we put built in’s from ikea. still want to finish them off with crown molding throughout. we were in desperate need of storage like most old houses. i needed a place to store all my pottery barn dishes from our wedding! sophia has her stash of stuff at the bottom as well. still need to get some baskets for the bottom area..not there yet. we were also going to put doors on parts of the cabinets to hide away some stuff.
we knocked out two walls in the space to open up the floor plan..it’s great for parties.
Wanting to do something cool over your fireplace??
Check out Michael’s for some great stencils! i even saw some cool decals at Joann’s the other day that you could put up and paint over..peel off and wala!

April 24, 2010 at 12:02 pmthanks for all the lovin ladies!! it really doens’t even feel like the same room from when we moved in. i remember being pregnant and sick and sitting in the room and being like..woah..what are we gonna do with this room. but seriously our whole house was like that…we kicked out butts with work. i had major nesting going on and plus i love busy work.
the paint color is guacamole from behr….but i’m pretty sure they changed the paint up on me because i went to get some touch up paint and put it up and it came out a tad lighter. but it’s still in the general color! i love it. it’s in our family room as well.
