Big Family – Daily Chore Lists

June 18, 2020

I mentioned on my Instagram about how the kids do chores before lunch and again before dinner to stay on top of things…and I got asked what exactly I have them do! SO I thought I would write up some of the things that will be on their daily chore lists!

Growing up, my parents always gave us daily chores that varied each day and I was expected do them as a part of the family! Now that I have kids of my own, I implement a lot of the same. Everyone helps out to keep things running smoothly!

Here’s some examples of what might be on their chore lists!
(They usually have 4 things on their list.)

1. A ROOM
I typically give each child a room to focus on…which means they do clutter, any trash and sweep.
-Family Room
-Dining Room/Foyer
-Play Room
-Kitchen

2. NORMAL JOBS
They have jobs that are always on their list.
GIRLS ( almost 11 and almost 10)
-They alternate between Loading and Unloading Dishes each day.

BOYS (7 and 4)
-They alternate bringing down laundry from bathrooms to the laundry room.
-Runners. We have a little basket on the kitchen bar for random clutter I pick up through the day. I’ll sort it out and they run it upstairs where it goes.

LITTLE BOYS (4 and 2)
– They have the shoes on their list and then I pair them up with a big kid’s job.
(example: If big brother is doing playroom I’ll put a little boy with him to help.)
This is our shoe closet under the stairs!- I did the photos so the little boys can know where to put the shoes.

3. EXTRA JOBS
These are tasks that I add if needed or move around more between kids.
-Trash from Bathrooms
-Wipe down bathroom sinks
-Water Ferns
-Windex Door Windows
-Upstairs Hallway
-Backyard pick up
-Wipe down Kitchen Appliances
-Swiffer floors
-Switch/Fold Laundry
-Put Away Laundry

BEDROOMS
We typically do deep cleaning of bedrooms over the weekend.
But sometimes if their rooms are getting wild I’ll add “pick up room toys” to their list.

Chores shouldn’t take very long- we do a quick round before lunch…and then again before dinner. SOMETIMES if things aren’t looking too wild we just do it once.

I’ve found that the more specific I am with the chore the better they do. So instead of saying “clean your room”…. I write down: “put toys in the bins,” “make bed,” “bring down laundry.”

I hope this is helpful if you are trying to figure out what chores you might give your kiddos! They are more capable than you think!
We all do our part to make our home a nice space we can all enjoy.
Once the chores are done…it’s time for FUN!
