How to: Choose and Prepare an Artichoke
always a tad intimidated by these at the store..but feeling brave enough to try it out now!
Follow These Four Easy Steps
Time Inc. Studios
1Make sure the artichoke leaves are intact
When choosing your artichokes, look for tightly-packed leaves; splayed leaves are a sign your vegetables is less than fresh. A couple of brown spots, however, are fine.

2Trim the top
Using a knife with a serrated edge, slice off the top half inch for a nice flat surface.
Tip: Artichokes are very tough. If you don’t have a sharp knife, one with a serrated edge will do the trick.

3Trim the remaining thorns with scissors
Hold the artichoke by the stalk and use kitchen scissors to snip the pointy tips from the remaining leaves.

4Slice off the stem
The stem is edible (and delicious), but if you plan to serve artichokes upright on the plate, slice it off with your knife.
Tip: Refrigerate unwashed artichokes in a plastic bag. A fresh artichoke will keep for up to a week. If the leaves begin to spread, cook it as soon as possible.

How to: Fold a Fitted Sheet
I am sooo bad about folding fitted sheets. they usually end up a glob and try and hide them away. haha.
Follow These Four Easy Steps
Time Inc. Studios
1Lay out the sheet
Spread the sheet on a flat surface, fitted corners up.

2Fold in half and tuck in corners
Fold sheet in half horizontally, tucking the fitted top corners into the fitted bottom corners. If your sheet has gathered sides, tuck them into each other, too. Smooth the edges flat.
Time Inc. Studios
3Fold lengthwise
Fold the sheet lengthwise so that all four fitted corners are on top of one another. Again, slide the top set of corners into the bottom set.

4Fold to desired size
Fold the sheet in half again, and fold over the smooth end to finish. For a smaller bundle, fold again.
Tip: To prevent wrinkles, fold sheets right out of the dryer while they’re still warm.

June 10, 2010 at 6:32 amNatalie! I love the fitted sheet demo! My my mom used to always try and help me, but at the end of the day I would say, “ugh this is fine”. This is great and I won’t have to throw the fitted sheet in the dryer to get my wrinkles out before I used it ;) haha
