MERV RATINGS?
I had no idea with MERV ratings were! But here’s the basics I found out: the MERV rating system measures how effectively a filter removes particles from the air. It ranges from 1-20 with 1 performing the lowest and 20 the highest. Think of a MERV 1 like a mesh strainer – it filters out the big things but lets a lot of little things get through. The higher you get on the MERV rating scale, the more that mesh strainer will filter!
WHAT AIR FILTER TO GET?
They told me they usually recommend using at least a MERV 8 filter and increasing your filtration protection based on your needs. We went with the MERV 13. Your filter size will be marked on the current one in there so just check that and you’ll know exactly what to get.
