We are weeks into summer break over here!
We wanted to come up with some fun family activities that feel special but don’t have to cost a lot.
Our kids love playing board games, so we thought what if we did a game night,
but moved it up and had a game afternoon!
There are two important things when it comes to a game night (or afternoon)…
Pick a fun game and have yummy food.
Our kids get their dip loving from their parents. haha. Ben and I love queso and
I knew I wanted to use this traditional Mexican cheese I found for the base of a yummy spinach queso dip.
La Vaquita Queso Fresco is hand-crafted in small batches with a light, milky and mild flavor. You’re welcome.
My kids devoured this thing. Which surprised me at first because
I put tomatoes and spinach and cilantro and onions in it…
sometimes they get picky, but I think they were just so excited they didn’t even
realize there were green things in there.
If you’re looking for a delicious recipe to try out, here you go!
We made a queso dip into an even yummier appetizer with a few key ingredients.
The La Vaquita Queso Fresco was the star of this dish!
In a pan, I sautéed 1/4 cup of diced white onions in olive oil.
Added the La Vaquita cheese and milk, and stirred until melted.
Then, I added a can of tomatoes and 1/2 cup chopped spinach and stirred.
I poured it all into another pan and sprinkled some Colby jack cheese on top.
(all the cheeses please)
Then I put it in the oven, set to broil, and waited until it was toasty on top!
I sprinkled some fresh cilantro on top and
we were ready to game afternoon it up!
Our kids love to play Sorry.
They are out to win!
Don’t let their sweetness fool you…they are cutthroat Sorry players! haha
It was fun seeing their smiling faces and giggles
and how by intentionally setting this time aside.
together for fun and yummy snacks was all they needed to be so happy
Micah was mainly into the snacks and beverages.
Every so often he would cheer, “My turn!” and move a random piece.
Not appreciated by the “serious” Sorry players. He was moved onto daddy’s team… haha.
The winners of the night were Sophia in first and Sienna in second.
They creamed me. But I consider the afternoon a win because… cheese dip.
