Over the years, we have shared so much of our family life with you guys…..
and in today’s post I’m doing a recap on some of the
most IMPORTANT things I’ve ever shared with you all….
The FOOD we make during the Holidays!!!
Haha! Seriously though, these are the recipes that make my heart so happy and fill me with all the nostalgia of family and memories together. If any of these sound yummy to you I hope you make them with your own family this Christmas!
Peanut Blossom Cookies + Reese’s Cup Cookies.
This recipe uses the same dough…just different candies/cook times depending on what cookie you want to make!
We usually double the recipe and make some of each!
This is a recipe that takes me back to my childhood….all of us siblings continue to make them today and it wouldn’t be a Christmas at my parent’s house without them on the treat table.
Blueberry Buckle
Every Christmas morning, as a child, we would love this yummy recipe on the breakfast table. My mom always paired it with bananas and Vanilla yogurt.
I love hearing from you guys how you tried the recipe and can’t get enough!
A pretty pan of this makes everyone happy! The crumbly topping with the blueberries…
mmm can’t wait for my mom to make this this year!
Sausage Egg Strata
I started making this recipe in the early years of our marriage (it’s been 12+ married years now!) and it immediately became a MUST to make EVERY Holiday. haha. We hosted Thanksgiving this year for Ben’s family and I tripled the recipe in huge pans to feed the crew – it was a hit as always!
I love a prepare ahead type of recipe. We make it Christmas Eve and pop it in the fridge. Ben has gotten pretty good at making it while I finish wrapping presents haha.
You take it out int he morning, let it sit 30 minutes, and then pop in the oven! The house smells soooo good and it’s the perfect savory breakfast option when you’ve already been eating all the stocking candy. ;)
Apple Crisp
Speaking of breakfast food…. I am known to eat a cold bowl of apple crisp the day after. haha. BUT…this is a classic family recipe we make that is so so so so good. If you like apple desserts but want something easier/different than an apple pie to make…this is your recipe! It’s delicious paired with vanilla ice-cream and a must every Holiday in our house.
I am a huge fan of equal crumb topping to apples haha. It’s my favorite part. ;)
Family recipe that I’ve tweaked because I’m a topping girl. MAKE THIS!! (Posted the recipe way back in my Busy Budgeting Mama days :)
Broccoli Cauliflower Salad
If you’re like, Natalie I need a salad recipe that’s healthy” This is not it. haha. I mean there’s vegetables in here but the bacon and dressing might make it more in the dessert category and I’m OK WITH THAT. The crunch of this salad is so yummy! It’s always a hit when I make it for parties/potlucks/family get togethers. We actually have a potluck to go to coming up and this is for sure the recipe I’m going to bring! I mean…anything with bacon gets rave reviews. But I always get people saying how they aren’t cauliflower or broccoli people but can’t get enough of this salad. The dressing is a mix of mayo, red wine vinegar and sugar and it’s DELISH. I need to do an updated blog post on this that does it justice with the photos but couldn’t do this blog post without throwing in one of my favorite ways to eat vegetables. ;)
Sausage, Egg and Biscuits with Gravy
This is a recipe that my Grandmother made for us as kids and we all continue to make it – It makes me think of those family memories every time!
Whenever we have company I end up making this one morning for breakfast and they go gaga over it. A good ol southern recipe-comfort food at it’s finest! And nothing is better than comfort food over Christmas. :) My kids frequently ask me to make this for dinner– everyone loves it!
I use canned biscuits (unlike my grandmother) just to make meal prep a little quicker/easier for me… I can throw this together and get in on the table super fast.
My Mom’s Baby Jesus Cookies
This recipe is ALL my mom and it’s become the sweetest little tradition to have at her house!
The kids loveeeee it and I mean.. it’s a baby Jesus cookie! You need this recipe in your family! haha.
PS. She uses the little pink melting chocolates as his faceeeeee. So smart.
Final recipe of the day….
Our Traditional Sugar Cookie Recipe
We make this alllll year long… but always at Christmas.
We typically use this recipe for our cookie decorating fun… the kids add all the granulated sugars and we bake them.
In this post though I used tube icing to decorate them. This sugar cookie recipe is our FAVORITE and we’ve been making it since I was a babe. ;)
I hope you enjoyed today’s post as I share a yummy part of our Christmas Traditions!
These are recipes that we just can’t celebrate a Holiday…without!
